Being extended in the South-Eastern part of Romania, the Dolj County is crossed by the Jiu River, from where it has its name- Doljiu, which means the Lower Jiu. In the Southern part, along 150 km the couty's border there is the Danube, which forms a natural border between Romania with Bulgaria and Yugoslavia.
